Who Really Is The Contact Lenses Inventor ?

By far, there were many people who played a part in this invention. 

In fact, it spanned for hundreds of years.

First, let's start at the being.  Leonardo Di Vinci first thought of the concept of using a soft material to put onto the eye's surface to correct vision.  Like many other of his inventions though, they were simply rough ideas of what could be done.  He thought of the idea, but he did not make them.

Other contributors include F.E. Muller who produced the first eye covering, A. Eugen Fick and Edouard Kalt used them to correct optical defects.  Later, Joseph Dallos would take moulds for living eyes so that he could develop a more closely fitting one.  William Feingllom uses plastic.  There are many more people who have contributed to the invention as well.  You can find it to be a varied history.

So, what does all this mean?  Is there no clear winner on who was the contact lenses inventor?  Probably not.  There are many people that took the ideas of Di Vinci and transformed them into the products we use today.  While no one went from those rough designs to the lens we have today, each did their part in developing this technology.  It will come to no ones surprise that there will probably be many more answers down the road as well as new inventions.
